Mercedes-Benz has been distinguished by the prestigious Russian “Car of the Year 2011” award in two categories. The prize-giving ceremony took place on 5 April 2011.
The flagship model of the family, Mercedes-Benz S-class, becomes the winner of the “Limousines” nomination for the second year running. Light commercial vehicles participated in the contest alongside with the passenger cars. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which has established a solid position in the Russian market, was named the best in the “Vans” category, also for the second year in succession.
The fact that S-class has won over its closest competitors in the “Limousine” category proves once again its leadership in the premium segment. Last year the S-class vehicles became even more powerful and efficient due to the new V6 and V8 engines. On top of that, two new assistance systems for active safety made their debut in this class.
This year the Russian “Car of the Year” award was presented for the eleventh time. This is the most large-scale national award of the automotive industry in Russia. The vote participants evaluated the total of 375 vehicles. The voting for the best models was held throughout the country from 1 December 2010 through 28 February 2011. The winners were determined by the direct public vote at the award website and via the payment terminals.
